Matias Vs. Valenzuela: IBF Orders To Vacate Hitchins’ 140-lb Title
The IBF has ordered #5 Subriel Matias and #6 Gabriel Valenzuela to begin light welterweight title elimination talks to determine the #1 contender for the new 140 lb Richardson Hitchins belt.
IBF Orders Eliminator
Matias, 32, has a good chance to get back into the world title fight to regain his old IBF belt which he lost last year, losing 12 decisions to Liam Paro on June 15.
It’s a tall order for Valenzuela to beat Matias because he’s a great boxer, and he’s going to be pushing him relentlessly. Gabriel will likely follow Paro’s blueprint by using moves, excellent wraps, shoves, and other strong tactics to try and win.
Elvis Rodriguez chose not to fight Matias (21-2, 21 KOs). Apart from that, he would face the former IBF light welterweight champion in the title fight. His loss, as he is expected to fight Yomar Alamo next.
Jake Donovan reports that the IBF is ordering Matias-Valenzuela negotiations.
Gabriel Valenzuela (30-3-1, 17 KOs) has won his last five fights since losing to Montana Love via a 12-round unanimous decision in Las Vegas on May 7, 2022. Valenzuela’s other two losses came against William Zepeda and Luis Hernandez Ramos.
