He Can’t Speak Spanish, Can He Fight? Morrell Benavidez Questions Before The Clash

David Morrell has angered David Benavidez’s fans by saying on social media that he only knows how to “eat tacos”. “I can’t speak Spanish.” This comment lit a fire under Benavidez’s fans, who lashed out at the talented Cuban player.

Many believe that the ‘Mexican King’ will knock out Morrell, but that may not be true. Benavidez has become a different fighter since moving up to 175; his strength is not there in this weight class.

Light heavy weight kryptonite because Benavidez. He’s gone from Superman to a regular volume puncher, and he’d have trouble against a true 175-pounder like Morrell. These fighters will meet on 23 days on PBC on Prime Video PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Belly Battle

Morrell’s comments about Benavidez’s eating habits were in response to his predicament when they first met face-to-face. Benavidez had a potbelly at the time and looked like a long-haul truck driver, who used to eat on the street at greasy food joints. That stomach was worse than Tyson Fury’s.

Thankfully, Benavidez appears to have lost weight. Interestingly, it had only been six months since his last fight with Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15 when he began promoting his February 1 clash against Morrell. How on earth can Benavidez pack on so much weight in half a year? He must really allow himself to get into the middle of the battles to get that fat.

Obviously, Benavidez can’t keep letting his body get out of shape like that in the future because he won’t have much of a job if he can’t make 175 or if he’s forced to cut himself out to make weight. He was already looking bony when he made his debut at 175 last summer, and that was a bad sign.

If Benavidez is already killing himself to make weight at light heavyweight, it won’t be long before he is forced to move up to cruiserweight against IBF champion Jai Opetaia.

It is understandable why the ‘regular’ WBA light heavyweight champion Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) commented on Spain’s Benavidez because he revealed that he has trouble understanding him. Morrell’s fast-talking style made it impossible for Benavidez to follow.

“I’m ready for February 1. Viva Mexico, you guys. “Benavidez can’t even speak Spanish,” said David Morrell on social media. “He can eat tacos and crap. May the best man win.”
