The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) says it has returned to “undisturbed” work as it has installed an acting chairman.
“Frontline services of the ERC will continue to be fully operational, to ensure that consumer concerns are addressed quickly and assistance is easily provided to the public,” the commission said in a statement on Wednesday.
The ERC announced the formal consideration office of former Justice Secretary Jesse Hermogenes T. Andres asficer-in-charge chairman and chief executive officer of the commission.
In a memorandum dated September 20, the Offiof the Chief Secretary appointed Mr. Andres to lead the ERC temporarily.
“I will do my duties as ERC Officer-in-Charge Chairman with great fairness and independence. “The ERC will take immediate action on all pending issues with the aim of promoting competition and ultimately reducing the price of electricity and protecting consumers,” said Mr. Andres.
Mr. Andres called the management committee and emphasized to it the need to take immediate action on all the pending issues of the ERC.
Mr. Andres is a lawyer and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of the Philippines.

Mr. Andres assumed his position more than two weeks after the acting chairman Monalisa C. Dimalanta resigned.fisay.
Ms Dimalanta said the appointment of the OIC is a “welcome development” that will allow the commission to resume its official duties, according to a statement following the announcement by the Presidential Communications Office last week.
The Ombudsman suspended Ms. Dimalanta for six months due to a complaint filed by the National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms, Inc. regarding the allegations that the commission failed to take action in resetting the electricity distributor Manila Electric Co.
Ms. Dimalanta is being investigated for allegations of gross misconduct, gross abuse of authority, and gross negligence of duty and conduct prejudicial to the interests of the ministry.
Ms. Dimalanta said she still hopes that the Ombudsman will resolve her request for reconsideration and lift the suspension of protection “as soon as possible.”
