The Chicago Bulls honored their son Derrick Rose on Saturday night against the Knicks in the “Derrick Rose Night” halftime event at the United Center.
It was the perfect time to grab one, considering NY and Chicago made up Rose’s 11th of 15 seasons in the NBA.
During halftime, there were comments from Bulls analyst Stacey King, and Bulls/Knicks teammate Joakim Noah.
Noah’s speech shocked Rose.
“Pooh, this story is not just about your success,” said Noah. “It’s about hope, it’s about overcoming adversity. Every time you go inside [United Center] fans will chant MVP.”
“He’s the MVP, he’s the youngest MVP in the history of the league, he’s the Chicago MVP,” Noah continued. “Being the MVP is a lot of responsibility. The way you handled it all, that’s what inspired me. You always put the city on your back and carry that with you. You are not only the MVP, you are the champion of the people.”
After a long thank you video, Rose delivers her own speech, and you can see her son PJ also shed tears.
“Being big means sometimes you’re not going to be liked,” Rose said. “You have to show that courage [even though] people don’t like it no matter what, that I am confident in my choice. I am sure I will succeed. I want to be great. He wants to be great.
“So thank you Chicago for forcing me to be great, putting those expectations on myself, not realizing that I was trying to be great all the time, and I just didn’t know the place I was in that was forcing me to be great. . So thank you to everyone who has watched me since I was in sixth grade, seventh grade, eighth grade, injury, MVP, playoff loss, playoff win, thank you. “
Before his special break, D-Rose learned that he will retire from the team next season.

He made it clear after the unveiling of the latest statue in Miami that he does not want a statue and the bulls say it won’t be there – thank God.
