Former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman says Anthony Joshua needs to replace trainer Ben Davison with Lennox Lewis following AJ’s fifth round defeat by Danel Dubois last Saturday night. Rahman blames Joshua’s defeat on the fact that he came out “quiet” against IBF heavyweight champion Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs), and believes that was a mistake.

Rahman feels that Joshua may not get on well with former United heavyweight champion Lewis, but he thinks he is the best man for him to bring back.
If Joshua doesn’t want to officially replace Ben, he can install Lewis as the second coach and give him points. Focusing more on Lewis would be wise for Joshua, especially during the fights.
Lewis would know what tactics will work against Dubois, and at this point, Joshua can’t afford to lose again. You need someone who has been there, like Lennox. If Joshua chooses to stick with Ben Davison out of loyalty, he may regret it later.
There were reports that Davison told Joshua to throw two jabs followed by the fifth round. Joshua was knocked out when he tried to throw an uppercut in the fifth round, blocked by a right by Dubois. If that report is correct, what a mistake. That was worse than Joshua who went out in the first round fighting for nothing.
We don’t know if Joshua will choose to fight Dubois in the next fight because his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has indicated that he wants him to wait until the December 21 fight between the unified champion Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury before they decide who it is. The next one.
“The way Dubois fights, he goes in very slowly. He comes with bad intentions, trying to get you out,” said Hasim Rahman speaking to Fighthype, reacting to Anthony Joshua losing to Daniel Dubois. “I think Joshua fought a little bit. That’s why he was caught with a gun.”
Joshua is just fighting Deontay Wilder off his recent losses to Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker. Going around the ring against Dubois was Joshua’s plan, and it’s surprising that he used that method. Was that Ben Davison’s game plan? If so, that’s another reason to replace him.
“I think Anthony Joshua needs a different coach. “I know that there is a coach that he doesn’t agree with, but I believe that Lennox Lewis can take him to the heavyweight championship in the world,” said Rahman.
“I think Lennox would be the best trainer for Anthony Joshua. So whatever little inconsistencies they have, they can put that aside and form a British dream team and go back and take the title for a third time. I think Lennox is Anthony’s man. “I know Lennox will do this, and I think they will make a dream team together,” Rahman said.
Adding Lewis to Joshua’s team may not help the situation because AJ’s chin will still be as vulnerable as ever. But at least if Joshua had Lewis in his corner, he would have fought harder and wouldn’t have been given game plans that didn’t focus on his strength.
“The most important thing is experience. He has been in this situation Anthony is in, he knows how he will come back,” said Rahman. “He came back up every time he was in that situation. Just boxing IQ and how you know how to move around the ring.
“I think Lennox would be the perfect man for Anthony to go back and take the heavyweight title three times,” said Rahman.
If Joshua is going to remain loyal to Ben because of his friendship, he may not be comfortable letting him go. He has to do something because clinging to Ben is like a sinking ship.
