Competing at the Chengdu Open seems to bring out the best in Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul.
The top seed on Tuesday won their second consecutive ATP 250 China title with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 victory over Yuki Bhambri and Albano Olivetti. Doumbia and Reboul won the first seven points of the Match Tie-break to claim their third tour title of the season.
With their 96-minute win, Doumbia and Reboul avenged their loss to Bhambri and Olivetti in the team’s previous Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting earlier this season in Lyon. The French pair, this week in Chengdu competing together for the first time since Wimbledon, are now 31-15 in 2024.
Doumbia and Reboul’s recent title boosted their chances of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time. The pair moved up to 14th in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings thanks to their victory in Chengdu.
Nedunchezhiyan/Prashanth Triumph in Hangzhou
At the Hangzhou Open, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth won their first ATP Tour title as a team with a 4-6, 7-6(5), 10-7 victory in the championship match against Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens.
Nedunchezhiyan and Prashanth won 80 percent (39/49) of the points after their first match, according to Infosys ATP Stats, in one hour, their victory lasted 49 minutes. The Indian duo had played just one tour-level match together before Hangzhou, but emerged victorious in a tie-break match on a tough ATP 250 court.
It was the second ATP Tour crown for 35-year-old Nedunchezhiyan, who also won on home soil in Chennai in 2017 (w/Rohan Bopanna). Tuesday’s win in Hangzhou was a tour-level title for 37-year-old Prashanth.
“I want to thank Vijay Sundar for playing with me twice,” said Nedunchezhiyan at the trophy ceremony. “It is the first year we have played together and we have won the 250th title. It feels surreal. ”
Prashanth added: “I want to thank my partner. It is very important for me, my first tour-level title… It was a great event for us. We enjoyed it, and I’m glad we won it.”
