Tyson Fury says he won’t be surprised if he defeats Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch on Saturday night.
He says he was “born a winner,” and defeating unified heavyweight champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) would be no different from his 34 other wins during his 16-year career.
I hope he’s serious because he partied and ate like crazy after his win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. The Gypsy king reached approx 400 lbs and stayed out of the ring for 2 1/2 years, celebrating.
For Fury to do so, he was not confident that he would win, and he may have doubts that he will raise his hand against Usyk. In other words, when Fury talks, he’s not real.
Born a Winner?
“That’s what I do. I win. I was born a conqueror, and I will die a conqueror. A few wins in between don’t mean much to me,” said Tyson Fury speaking to Queensberry Promotions when asked what he will do if he wins against Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday.
The Checkered Past
That loss that Fury suffered against Usyk should have been #3 on his resume and not the first, as his first match with John McDermott on September 11, 2009, was clearly a gift decision, and his first match against Deontay Wilder should have been a knockout loss. That’s when Fury came out cold at 12 and was given a count by the referee. The war had to be stopped there and then.
“I think Fury got it from him. This is his big fight, his comeback. He will never have a big fight coming back from defeat,” said Gareth A. Davies on talkSport Boxing. “Muhammad Ali came back from defeat becoming the heavyweight champion. Tyson Fury can do it.
“Fury didn’t hold him long enough, and he can do that in this fight. He hurt Usyk to the body and uppercuts, time and time again. You will use all of that. What Usyk will do differently this time. Who knows? Maybe he’ll be a bit more mobile and tough, but it’s going to be an exciting, fistic chess game as they head into the 13th round.
“I understand he’s in better shape,” Gareth said of Fury. “He had his right eye cut out to face the last camp, of course.”
Ali’s comparisons to Gareth were many, even for him. If Fury had that kind of skill, he wouldn’t have any problems on Saturday against Usyk.
