Ryan Garcia suffered a wrist injury in preparation for his December 30 showdown against Rukiya Anpo, which forced the fight to be postponed. The event promoted by FANMIO and RIZIn will be given a new date in the first half of 2025.
Dr. Steven Shin of Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles confirmed Garcia’s wrist injury. He will need a few weeks without interference before he can return to action and resume preparation for his eight-round showdown against Anpo.
Official statement from Garcia
Ryan is using his matchup with the lanky 6’0″ Anpo to stay sharp and continue to cash in on his one-year suspension by the New York State Athletic Commission due to his suspected doping earlier this year. .
The suspension came at a particularly bad time for Garcia, 26. It prevented him from using his best 12-round decision win over Devin Haney on April 20 in Brooklyn, New York.
“I have been eagerly preparing for my upcoming exhibition fight in Japan, training hard in Dallas for the past few weeks,” said Ryan Garcia. “Unfortunately, I injured my hand during training and returned to Los Angeles to see a doctor, who advised me to postpone my December 30 show.”
Garcia wants this fight with Anpo to give him more experience, keep him sharp, and earn a payday during his year out of the ring. It’s a game that carries some risk because Anpo can hit, and he’ll be looking to take advantage of Kingry’s weakness in the loss of Gervonta Davis.
Anpo hasn’t been in a boxing match with a fighter of Ryan’s caliber thus far. His three-round showdown against 45-year-old Manny Pacquiao last summer involved the older fighter in a shorter match. It will be very difficult for him to handle Ryan’s power and speed.
