YouTube TV allows certain subscribers to opt out of price increases

YouTube announced a big subscription price increase this week that will drop the monthly cost by $10 to $82.99 on January 13 for existing members (or now, if you sign up today). Some subscribers avoid travel using the time-honored tradition of threatening to cancel, like one The Verge a reader pointed to the comments on our first story about the price hike.

That’s supported by users in that Reddit thread 9 on 5 Google observed, several of them reported receiving an offer to continue paying $72.99 for six additional months when they tried to cancel their subscription, although another report did not work for them. Some who kept the old price said it only happened when they logged in using a web browser on their computer and pursued an offer to cancel their subscription instead.

One The Verge employee, Jennifer Tuohy, received an offer to extend her current rate. Canceled by logging into YouTube TV in a browser on your computer and going to Settings > Membership > Manage. As of this morning, Reddit users continue to report receiving an extension offer.
