Bill Haney Explains Devin’s Annual Vacation: Relaxing and Partying

Bill Haney says Devin will take a year off to rest his body and work on stopping Hook’s left before returning to the ring in 2025. Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) has been out of the ring for seven months since his loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20 and appears to be reeling from that loss.

It’s the end of the year

Former two-division world champion Haney’s decision to take a year off means he will have to wait until Kingry’s suspension expires in April 2025 before fighting again. Devin’s decision to sit and watch his loss for a year, until Ryan is found, is not exactly brave, but there is too much money at stake for him to risk.

However, this is an expected move because it is too risky for Haney to fight someone and possibly lose. The beating could derail a potential rematch for Devin against Garcia. Therefore, it is wise for Haney to sit and wait for Ryan because whoever he faces will be swinging for the fences, looking to take advantage of Dev’s vulnerable chin.

If Haney were one of these Gilded Age barons like JP Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, or Cornelius Vanderbilt, he CANNOT last a year without staying as busy as possible, taking advantage of his popularity to make millions fighting the top guys. Haney is not cruel like the richest robbers and he lacks the courage and desire to get every last penny he can by being as busy as possible.

Playing it Safe?

“All battles are choices. I believe in Devin, and I believe in his abilities. I also believe in doing things the right way. I believe in following the trailblang to be compensated for the position it is in, and having the right deal structure. It’s more about the deal making than anything else,” Bill Haney told Tru Media, referring to his son, Devin Haney.

“The only thing we can do is let him rest his body. He is a young man. He’s been walking, he’s been fighting, and he’s been doing. A lot went into it [Ryan Garcia] fighting,” Bill said of Haney.

“He is the one who said he will leave next year, I support his plan 100%. If he had said he wanted to come back after four months, I would have supported that too. He said he wanted to take a year off. He did not say that he was retiring. That year, we have a chance to see everyone.

“We can be a fan. We can follow the game. What I said is that they still want to see us. Thank you for wanting to see us and following me, brother,” said Bill Haney.
