Washington – The former Speaker of the House was admitted to hospital after being injured while part of a congressional delegation on a trip to Luxembourg, his office said on Friday.
“While traveling with a Congressional delegation to Luxembourg to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi was injured during an official engagement and was hospitalized for evaluation,” said department spokesman Ian Krager in a statement. . “Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.”
The nature of the injury was not immediately clear. Krager said Pelosi continues to work at the hospital and is “looking forward to returning home to the US soon.”
Pelosi, 84, served as the Democratic leader of the House for 20 years, including two terms as Speaker, before that. retreating two years ago. He won another term to represent his San Francisco district in Congress in November, and remains an influential figure in the party, holding the title of speaker emerita.
A congressional delegation on a trip to Luxembourg featured members of both parties, including GOP Rep. Michael McCaul, outgoing chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. A total of 18 lawmakers marched to commemorate the Battle of the Bulge, the last major German offensive in the west during World War II.
