Udaan Yatri Cafe: The center will launch a special program to provide affordable refreshments at airports
The Narendra Modi 3.0 government is planning the Air Passenger Cafe scheme, which aims to provide affordable refreshments at airports while creating jobs in the country. Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu said a pilot project in this regard would be launched at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, West Bengal, on December 21. Zee Business had reported that such a plan was on the anvil.
After launching a pilot project in Kolkata, the ‘Udaan Yatri Cafe’ (Air Passenger Cafe) program will be expanded to other parts of the country.
Naidu also said that the government is working to make the air passenger experience more affordable and inclusive.
Under this initiative, Air Passenger Cafe kiosks will provide beverages such as snacks, tea, coffee and water at affordable prices at airports.
Initially, this system will be available at airports operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and later it will be taken to other airports in the country, according to the minister.
The kiosks are also planned to create employment opportunities at airports.
Kiosk privileges will be given to physically challenged women and men only, said the minister.
Last month, the domestic aviation industry reached a milestone with 5,05,412 domestic passengers departing from across the country in a day, marking the first time that the number of domestic passengers crossed five lakh in a single day. More than 3,100 flights took off that day, carrying passengers, according to an official statement.
Air passenger traffic in the country has been steadily increasing since the launch of the ‘Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik’ (UDAN) regional connectivity scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 21.
Civil Aviation Minister Naidu said the number shows better accessibility to air travel in the country.
The Ministry said that this historic event is a testimony to the strength and power of the country’s aviation industry, and also strengthens its position as an important promoter of the country’s economic progress.
