Nick Ball will defend his WBA featherweight title against recently beaten TJ Doheny on March 15 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England. It’s unclear how the WBA will allow this fight to happen because Doheny is not ranked in the top 15 and is off the bantamweight list.
Ball (21-0-1, 20 KOs) thinks it’s a good idea to defend his title in who is 38 years old Doheny (26-5, 20 KOs) because it helps in the fight between him and Naoya Inoue when he moves up to 126. Inoue stopped veteran Doheny in the seventh round on September 3.
The football cause of the Doheny Fight
Doheny has a 5-5 record in his last ten fights since 2019. From a commonsense point of view, it seems unfair for Ball to defend his WBA 126-lb title against an aging boxer who is out of the top 15 by any of the four sanctioned bodies and out of the rankings. to Inoue.
I don’t see how Football comes out ahead by choosing Doheny to honor his belt over one of the top contenders.

I wonder why the interviewer threw nothing but softball questions at Nick Ball. If it were me, I would they have been putting him under the light for his selection of Doheny as one of the assassins in 126.
It would look even better if Nick Ball fights WBO featherweight champion Rafael Espinoza. That would require Ball to risk losing a fight with Inoue if he loses, but at least he’ll be fighting a quality guy instead of a pedestrian. He won’t impress anyone who fights Doheny. Do you think Inoue is stupid? If Ball doesn’t have the courage to fight people like Espinoza, Angelo Leo, or Bruce Carrington, he doesn’t measure up to fighting Inoue.
