Is Spence Over? Fundora Thinks She Can Win

Sebastian Furdora says his next WBC and WBO junior middleweight title defense “must” be against Errol Spence. Fans have mixed feelings about Fundora, 6’5 1/2″, going up against Spence who looks burnt out because he hasn’t done well since his car crash on October 10, 2019.

Is Spence washed up?

Errol has fought just three times in the past four years as of 2020, and has been out of the ring since his ninth round loss to Terence Crawford on July 30, 2023. In that fight, Spence looked like a broken shell of a fighter. he was earlier.

His agility, speed, and strength were gone. He was beaten by Crawford, who looked better than he was the way Spence looked exhausted. During the negotiations for the fight, you could tell that Spence was wrong. He sounded like he had a mouth full of marbles and spoke slowly.

Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) and former United welterweight champion Spence (28-1, 21 KOs) have been rumored to fight next since Sebastian defeated WBO 154-lb champion Tim Tszyu on March 30 earlier this year.

Spence stepped into the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas immediately following Fundira’s 12-round split decision against Tszyu, making it clear next time they would fight.

“That should be next. I think that will be a good fight with a lot of action. He throws a lot of punches. I throw a lot of punches,” Sebastian Fundora told BoxNation about his next fight with Errol Spence. “He is a warrior who comes forward. That’s how I see myself. It would be great for Mexican fans in America.”

Fundora’s opportunity

Unsurprisingly, Fundora, 26, is excited to fight Spence because his chances of winning could be high. Fans would love to see Fundora take on someone more convincing, like the IBF 154-lb champion Bakhram Murtazaliev next in place of Spence. At least that fight can be sporting.

Fundora is considered a vulnerable paper champion who will only hold on to his title as long as he is carefully matched. His title reign will come to an end if he fights someone as high as Murtazaliev, Vergil Ortiz Jr, Serhii Bohachuk, or Israil Madrimov.

Fundora is scheduled to rematch Brian Mendoza to avenge his seventh round loss on April 8, 2023. That happened last year, and he has made no move to fight Mendoza again.
