Ryan Garcia Weight: Impact on the Anpo Show & Future Wars
Ryan Garcia is looking good for his December 30 showdown against Rukiya Anpo in Japan. Garcia will be fighting Anpo in 19 days in Tokyo in a match that will be shown on Fanmio PPV for $49.99.
In the video clip, Ryan’s pulled up his pants to hide his Fury-esque spare tire that was missing seven months earlier. It is clear that he has been eating high on the pig since April 20, and we are seeing visible results.
Anpo benefit
Garcia has packed on the pounds for this fight, which could slow him down because he doesn’t look as fast as he did when he was younger. These two minute rounds will be quick and can work in Anpo’s favor. He looks in good shape. Anpo has a perfect target for his punches. Identify the center point of Ryan.
In this week’s workout clip, Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) has his pants hiked up in what appears to be a move to hide his growing belly. It’s a move you usually see middle-aged men like Tyson Fury pulling trunks to hide their stomachs. Seeing Ryan take this step is amazing.
He looks like he’s around 160 lbs, but he’s carrying 20 lbs more fat in the slim fight that defeated Oscar Duarte last year on December 2, 2023.
Garcia has been gaining weight since before his last fight against Devin Haney on April 20. He came in 3.2 lbs overweight at 143.2 lbs and had to pay $600,000.
The extra weight seemed to prevent Garcia from fighting hard throughout the rounds, and he took many breaks to recharge his batteries. He can get away with that from Haney because he is not a puncher or a pressure fighter. But if Ryan is facing one of the busy battles, he will be eliminated.
The extra weight Ryan, 26, is carrying doesn’t look like muscle, and that could be bad for him. Anpo, 6’0″, seems to be taking this eight-round bout seriously, and that could be a problem for the out-of-shape Garcia.
We saw how Anpo beat the 45-year-old Manny Pacquiao in their three-round showdown on July 28 in Saitama, Japan. Pacquiao got all the money he got in that fight because he took a lot of hard shots from the 29-year-old Anpo.
Garcia’s future
Ryan will need to lose weight when his suspension ends in April 2025 because he can no longer look like he does now. He doesn’t have the frame to fight at 154 and may not be strong enough to campaign at 147, either. He could do well at 147 against smaller fighters like Mario Barrios and Conor Benn, but he’ll be separated from Jaron Ennis and Eimantas Stanionis.
