Nikola Jokic Roasts Teammates After Historic Night Ends With Embarrassing Loss

The Nuggets did the unthinkable and wasted a historic night for Nikola Jokic, after losing 122-113 to the Wizards – who had not won in 16 games before that.

Jokic was doing his best to prevent defeat, after posting 56 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and one steal on 60 percent from three-point range, but his teammates let him down.

Only three of Jokic’s teammates managed to score in double digits and all Denver players Jokic combined to shoot 24-56 with ten turnovers.

After the game, Jokic was asked what he needs to see from the Nuggets in the next few games.

“The reaction. In my country, where I come from, after this kind of stretch you will get a pay check that is a little less than you deserve. So maybe that’s what we need to do. Maybe a little motivation that way.” (via Bennett Durando)

The Serbian star also raised another call that could wake up his team.

“What is its name? Being benched? Being on the bench, I think that’s a really good motivation,” he said.

On the team’s defense, there weren’t many strong options on offense, as Jamal Murray (hamstring) and Aaron Gordon (calf) were both out.

The 2023 champions are now the 9th seed in the West, with a .524 winning percentage and an 11-10 record, which is a far cry from previous seasons when they were sitting in the top three in the West for most of the season.

“I did a really bad job in this team. To be 11-10 at this point, and lose to a team (in five games) that averages 100 points a game – they put up 122 on us – that’s embarrassing,” Denver coach Michael Malone said after the game.

“We have moments in the movies where you hold the guys accountable, fix the problems, and they keep repeating. This is where I suspect (being) 11-10; I did a bad job as a coach preparing this team to win and go out and achieve. I don’t mind having that.”
