Fortnite’s new mode is an FPS very similar to Counter-Strike
Epic Games is about to be released Fortnite creators are publishing experiences with first-person modes, and to help show what’s possible, Epic itself presents a clever FPS shooter that looks like it’s going to play a lot. Counter-Strike or A hero.
The new mode, called “Ballistic,” is an “adrenaline-filled, all-around 5v5 competitive game mode where strategy, strategic coordination, and individual skill are key to victory,” according to Epic’s blog. Players will be divided into two teams, with one having to plant a bomb – sorry, I mean “Fine Point Device” – and the other having to defend against it. Between cycles, you will be able to buy the next gear. Teams will alternate after six rounds, and the first to win seven rounds will be crowned.
It’s not the first time Epic has criticized the concept of the game Fortnite: its racing and festival modes both borrow heavily from Psyonix The Rocket League and Harmonix The Rock Band (Epic owns both studios), i Lego survival mode has many similarities Minecraftand Epic even admitted that the (now defunct) Cheats mode was inspired Among Us. Heck, the game’s main battle mode was actually a spinoff that followed the success of PUBG.
But now that’s what Epic is trying to do Fortnite to something like it Roblox (another inspiration!), where players are encouraged to see multiple experiences instead of just one, modes like Ballistic and Reload let Epic experiment with different ideas without changing the basic experience of war royale. And since you bought Fortnite Clothing and gear generally work across modes, there are Epic financial incentives to add more experience, too.
Ballistic begins early access on December 11. Fortnite creators will be able to publish their experiences with first-person modes that day.
