Centene cancels in-person investor day after UnitedHealthcare CEO’s assassination, will host event at approx.

The health care company canceled its investment day after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was killed in New York City.

Centene, which provides managed care and health insurance services, announced Friday that it will webcast its investor day on Dec. 12, at 8:30 a.m. ET rather than holding the ceremony in person after Thompson’s death on Wednesday. Centene’s annual investor day was originally scheduled to be held in New York City at that time and date.

The move comes as health insurance companies and the health care industry are beefing up security and taking precautions such as taking photos and biographies of executives following Thompson’s killing, which law enforcement officials said was a “premeditated, targeted attack.” The suspect is still at large, the search is still on.

“All of us at Centene are deeply saddened by the death of Brian Thompson and want to express our support to all those affected,” Centene CEO Sarah London said in a statement. “Health insurance is a large industry and a small community; many Centteam members crossed paths with Brian in the course of their work.”

“He was a person with deep compassion and a clear passion for improving access to care. Our hearts go out to his family and colleagues during this difficult time,” London said.

After Thompson’s murder, UnitedHealthcare removed the corporate leadership page from its website, the URL now redirects web traffic to the company’s homepage.

A photo and biography page of Thompson’s wife, Paulette, were also posted on the website of his employer, Park Nicollet Health Service.

CVS Health on Friday confirmed to FOX Business that all photos of its senior leadership have been removed and declined further comment.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield has also taken down its leadership page and redirected it to the “about us” page.

The company on Thursday lifted a planned freeze on refunds for anesthesia procedures that exceed the time limit following pushback from a group representing anesthesiologists and members of the public.
