Creighton basketball coach makes bold claim after Bluejays upset top-ranked Kansas
The Creighton basketball teams recorded their 2024 signature win.
The Bluejays were seeded No. 1 to the Kansas Jayhawks in arguably the biggest upset so far this season. At one point, Creighton led by 17 en route to a 76-63 victory.
After the game, Creighton coach Greg McDermott made a bold claim. “This is a building [where] 1 teams will clearly die,” said the coach when the fans stormed the field.

To McDermott’s point, Creighton was able to do the same last season by upsetting the then-ranked UConn Huskies on their home court in Omaha.
The Bluejays’ 85-66 victory in February also sparked chaos on the court.

Under McDermott, Creighton has made nine NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the Sweet 16 three times.
The Bluejays’ win over Kansas marked the program’s 15th win over a top 10 since McDermott became head coach in 2010.
