Double dividends for the Djokovic-Murray Partnership

A terrific pairing of Novak Djokovic and a new coach Andy Murray promotes inner double vision Carlos Alcaraz.

Reigning Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion Alcaraz met with about eight reporters at a series of Q&A sessions at the Essex House in New York City’s Central Park South on Tuesday – the day before he faced off. Ben Shelton in the Garden Cup at Madison Square Garden.

A relaxed Alcaraz, dressed in beige Nike sweats, was in good spirits, smiling often and covering a wide range of topics during the 13-minute Q&A.

Asked how he reacts to the pairing of world famous players Djokovic and Murray, Alcaraz joked that his difficulty has doubled.

“It looks like I’m going to play with them [both],” Alcaraz said with a smile.

The third-ranked Spanish player, who was defeated by Djokovic in the gold medal match at the Paris Olympics, said he sees the cooperation of the Olympic champions as a victory.

Alcaraz said Murray is “the right coach” for Djokovic and predicted the pairing of the two Big 4 champions would be “big for tennis” and generate global interest in the sport.

“I think you found the right one. “Djokovic found the right coach,” said Alcaraz.

“If Andy agrees to be [Novak’s] the coach is because I think he feels ready to do that job. And seeing them up close and knowing that Andy Murray is going to be the coach, I think it’s going to be huge in tennis.

“When I saw it, I said ‘What’s going on?’ I think it’s good. I think he deserves to be his coach and I think it will be a great team.”

2022 US Open champion Alcaraz is expanding his coaching staff.

Alcaraz added Samuel Lopez, who was training Pablo Carreno Busta years, in his coaching staff led by the former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero.
