Thousands of government workers agree to continue working over the phone with Biden’s nominee: report

The union that represents thousands of state and federal employees has offered members to work from home ahead of the Trump administration’s upcoming efforts to force workers back to work.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) has reached an agreement with the Social Security Administration (SSA) to protect telework, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing messages seen by the agency.
The revised contract, which affects 42,000 public employees, will allow workers to remain in the mix until 2029.
The agreement was signed by President Biden’s former SSA Commissioner, Martin O’Malley.

Under the new agreement, office workers’ requirements range from two to five days a week, depending on the job, according to the store, according to people familiar with the matter.
“This agreement will not only protect SSA workers on the phone, but will ensure the quality of workers by preventing attrition, which will enable the Agency to serve the public,” AFGE president Rich Couture told Bloomberg.

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., opposed mixed employment, saying government employees need to “reflect the people they serve.”
“THOUSANDS of government workers just got a job at home before @realDonaldTrump took office,” Comer wrote on X. “That’s why I introduced the SHOW UP law. Our government needs to come from the working people.”
The representative’s biggest disagreement with remote job opportunities comes after President-elect Trump’s appointment is aimed at mixed workers.

“If you need most of those corporate executives to just say, like working Americans, you come to work five days a week, most of them won’t want to do that,” Ramaswamy said earlier on Fox News on Sunday. “If you have a lot of voluntary cuts in the federal government down the road, that’s good. That’s a good side effect of those policies as well.”
