keeping an eye on Caribbean heat waves
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tropical waves in the NW Caribbean have not yet formed but are expected to develop in the coming days either in this region or in the southern Gulf of Mexico.
Once developed, it will be in a good position to strengthen and is expected to become a tropical depression and Tropical Storm as it moves north and northeast.
Further strengthening of the storm is possible as it moves into the panhandle. We will be monitoring this closely as it will impact the Bay Area late next week in terms of rain and wind.
Currently, it has an 80 percent chance of improvement.
Another wave is expected to move off the coast of Africa overnight or on Monday and has a good chance of development as it passes through a favorable area.
It has a 50 percent chance of improvement over the next few days.
There is one other wave in the mid-Atlantic that now has a 0 percent chance of developing as it moves north into colder waters and does not affect any landmasses.
