Jessie James Decker says being a business owner is ‘not for the faint of heart’

Jessie James Decker told FOX Business that running many companies would not be possible without an “amazing team.”
Jessie James Decker knows what it takes to be a business owner, and not everyone does.
In an interview with FOX Business, the founder of Kittenish explained some of the challenges he has faced since launching his clothing line 10 years ago.
“Being a business owner is hard. I mean, I’m not going to sugarcoat it. You have to manage a lot. And I feel like I’m always able to think about a lot of small things at once. I’m always able to multitask, you know, it’s my gift.

“So, I feel like it’s been helpful to do a lot of things, especially when it comes to being an entrepreneur or running a business. I have a lot of different businesses that I run. But, you know, there’s a lot,” Decker said. “It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. You have to be strong. You have to have a thick skin. You have to have a lot of patience.”

He continued, “I’ve worked hard to educate myself about this business since I started it. And every day I’m learning something new. But I’ll tell you, the first thing is the team. You can’t do this without having a team. An amazing team behind you.

In 2014, Decker launched Kittenish – a clothing line that “mixes a feminine vibe with a sassy edge,” according to their website. In 2019, Kittenish opened its first brick and mortar store in Nashville, Tennessee.
“You know, it’s really funny. I had no idea that my store would be so popular here in Nashville, especially for bachelorettes. I mean, it’s in one of the biggest stations. People fly from all over the country to come to our store. I never thought that would happen,” Decker said.
“I am very blessed.”
“It’s sad that it has grown to what it is. Actually, it used to be only this side of the building, and it was like that, so many people all the time that I broke the wall and took this side of the building. It was built when it was available, it doubled in size, because it has become a standing area,” he continued. .
“And I feel like it brings Nashville together and it brings girls together. It’s mostly, like I said, bachelorettes coming here,” Decker said. “It’s pink. It’s beautiful, it’s fun, it’s country, it’s festive. It makes you feel good, and we’ve been going with the music. It’s always fun.”

In addition to Kittenish, Decker is also the founder of Walmart’s Just Feed Me line of cooking products. She is also the author of three cookbooks (four in progress).
“I love to cook. I’ve always been a foodie. And, you know, it started cooking in the kitchen and posting things on social media. And I started getting a lot of people asking for those recipes, and I felt the need,” Decker told FOX Business.

“So, I got a publishing deal and released my first cookbook. I’m working on cookbook number four now. Little did I know that I would have successful cookbooks, which led to the opportunity to have a cookbook line at Walmart. , and it continues to grow.
“It’s actually going to be in thousands of stores, actually, by the end of next year, which I’ll never get. I can’t believe that part of my business is growing so much. I’m so happy, we’re so blessed,” Decker commented.

He’s very honest and very business-like, but he’s a numbers guy, so, I’m the founder, he’s the business side, and it’s very helpful to have him in my corner and be able to just throw things out, and be like, ‘What do you think about this?’ And it’s great to be with him.”
