A Florida man has died after capsizing from a boat, getting caught in a propeller

A Florida man has died after getting caught in a boat propeller during a trip with a friend on the Sunshine State’s west coast.

The fatal incident happened around 11:40 a.m. Wednesday about two kilometers north of the Dunedin Causeway on the Intercoastal Waterway, the County Sheriff’s Office said.

Charles Barnes, 66, was fishing with his friend, William Coughenour, near Three Rooker Island on Coughenour’s 17-foot Key West boat.

Barnes was reportedly sitting in the front of the boat on top of the refrigerator while Coughenour was driving.

When Coughenour took his hand off the steering wheel to adjust the fishing pole, the boat “pulled right hand” and sent both men flying into the water, the sheriff’s office said.

While Coughenour was able to swim back to the boat, Barnes ended up being run over by the ship. He was pulled underwater after his right arm was caught in the propellers of the car.
