Warm weather welcomes the opening of many German Christmas markets
Unseasonably warm weather greeted the opening of many of Germany’s famous Christmas markets on Monday, where visitors probably didn’t need to pile on the mulled wine to feel warm and cozy.
The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts temperatures between 12 and 20 degrees Celsius in most of the country on Monday, while only the southeast is expected to be cooler, around 6 to 12 degrees.
Forecasters also called for moderate to strong winds, accompanied by a strong storm in the northwestern part of the country and a strong storm in the southern mountains and sea along the northern coast of Germany.
Most German Christmas markets open during the week before the first Sunday of the Christian season of Advent.
Tuesday is expected to be slightly cooler, although the DWD is still predicting highs of between 7 and 13 degrees.
