The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction will be held on November 24 and 25, 2024. This two-day event takes place every three years and will allow teams to rebuild their squads for the new season. Big names like Rishabh Pant, Mitchell Starc, KL Rahul, and Jos Buttler are among the players to be picked. All 10 IPL teams will participate in the auction, where 577 players will be available for bidding.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Schedule, Venue, and Timings
As mentioned earlier, the IPL auction will be held on Sunday, November 24, and Monday, November 25.
For the first time, the auction will be held in Saudi Arabia, at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, which can accommodate 15,000 people.
The auction will start at 3:30 PM IST on both days.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Player Count & Details
A total of 577 players will be available for purchase at the auction. Of these 367 Indian players, 210 are from overseas. Initially, 574 players had registered, but later, England’s Jofra Archer, USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar, and India’s Hardik Tamore were included in the list.
Each IPL team is required to have at least 18 players in their squad at the end of the auction.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Team Budget and RTM Rule Explained
All the IPL franchises have a total budget of Rs 120 crore, but they enter the auction with less because of the last phase.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) has the highest budget remaining at Rs 110.5 crore, while Rajasthan Royals (RR) has the lowest at Rs 41 crore.
Right to Match (RTM) Law Explained
The IPL auction has a unique Right to Match (RTM) rule, which allows former franchises the option to buy their former player at the price they were sold for. But, there is a twist this year.
If a team uses RTM, the winning team will get one last chance to increase their bid. If the original franchise chooses to use its RTM for this final application, it can return the player.
For example, if KL Rahul is sold for Rs 15 crore to Punjab Kings (PBKS) and his former team, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), uses their RTM, PBKS will get an opportunity to increase their bid. If PBKS increases its bid to Rs 17 crore, LSG can only bring back Rahul if they match that amount. If they don’t, RTM is not used.
