2024 snack box subscription

The Japanese eat art. Bokksu knows this better than anyone, rounding up some of the best Japanese snacks and sending them in a curated one-time or recurring monthly box. And I have to say, I’m a little obsessed with this. The best part about the Bokksu box is that almost none of these Japanese snacks remind you of many of the treats we already have in the US, but they are (mostly) freakin’ delicious. This begs the question: “What are we doing wrong here, people?!”

Best snacks: Seaweed tempura, green tea and lemon cakes. Japanese candy — including yuzu gummies and matcha or strawberry Kit-Kats.

Tokyo Treat is another service that collects snacks, cookies and candy from Japan, which after several rounds of testing I have declared the snack capital of the world. Tokyo Treat has some overlap with Bokksu but the treats are less child-oriented with classic salty or strawberry flavors and a few added “adult flavors” such as nori (seaweed), coffee or green tea.

Best snacks: Sakusaku Panda strawberry cookies, Yaokin Soba-Meshi rice noodle snacks.

Not to be outdone, MunchPak features some international snacks from around the world, including countries like Brazil, France, Canada, Greece and Japan, earning it a spot on our list of the most convenient subscription boxes. While Bokksu offers 100% snack class, MunchPak has something more, let’s call it, guilty snacks in its subscription box. If you’re a fan of delicious foods like Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and Sour Patch or whatever but also consider yourself a country person, this is probably the perfect snack box for you.

I noticed in my MuchPak that there was a higher percentage of sweets — 15 candies to just five snacks — if that helps you decide. For the global fun lover, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Best snacks: Biscolata mood cookies, Kingsbury Flamin’ Hot Claws and Fini’s sour candy straws.

If you love cured meats, jerkies and charcuterie, Carnivore Club is the way to go. This subscription box will include any number of salamis, meat jacks, biltong, smoked sausages and more. The Carnivore Club also has a full charcuterie market and a number of special boxes that are ready for one-off shipping.

Best snacks: Sweet and smoky venison sticks, bison jerky, Righteous Felon Voodoo chile beef.

Healthy snacks? It’s a thing, and Fit Snack has a scientific point of view. For interesting protein bars, lean beef, nutritious snacks and other snacks without sugar and salt, Fit Snack is the best way to choose healthy food. Fit Snack can be purchased as a subscription or as a one-time send to yourself or someone on your gift list. Boxes start at $18 (on Amazon, at least) and include snacks from popular health food brands like Rind, Peeled and Solely.

Best snacks: Chopped beef, Beanitos black bean chips and Bear Naked granola.

This meal subscription box is kind of a cross between Bokksu and MunchPak. It also happens to be CNET editor Bridget Carey’s top snack box pick. With Universal Yum, you’ll find delicious snacks from around the world (like MunchPak) but of a slightly higher pedigree (like Bokksu), from gourmet to delicious snack options. Think well-salted French chocolate, purple yam shortbread and Turkish-spiced Bagarati cracker chips.

Universal Yum is also one of the most budget-friendly snack subscriptions that contain five to seven snacks starting at $16 a month.

Best snacks: Black truffle potato chips, handmade baklava and garlic plantain chips.

You get one guess that this snack gift box and monthly snack subscription box is doing the best. But we’re not talking old-fashioned Milky Ways and Skittles here: The Candy Club sends its candies and they change every month to subscribers with a sweet tooth. A healthy mix of fruit, sour and chocolate with the occasional bite of cake, caramel or taffy thrown into the monthly box. You can order a one-time or monthly snack box with six candy cups in 6- or 13-ounce sizes.

Best snacks: Bands of sour strawberries, chocolate toffee nuts and bite-size cookie dough.

SnackNation is built on the premise that employees who have access to delicious snacks are happier employees and I can’t say I disagree. SnackNation doesn’t have the most interesting selection of snack box companies on this list, but their packages include tons of fan-favorite snacks. If you’re a CEO, small business owner or HR representative trying to make a lot of people happy by delivering a single snack, subscribing to SnackNation is a good bet. Oh, and it brings coffee and fresh fruit, I think technically speaking healthy snacks.

Best snacks: Hu chocolate bars, Country Archer jerky and Bear Naked granola bites.
