FBI says massive documents sent to Latino, 2SLGBTQ+ Americans talk about deportation and ‘re-education camps’

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation said on Friday that a number of offensive messages sent after Donald Trump’s victory in the November 5 presidential election and apparently aimed at Black Americans have expanded to target Latino and 2SLGBTQ+ people.

In a statement, the office said it is aware of these messages, most of which use racial slurs and instruct those who receive cotton, which is an indication of the enslavement of black people in the United States.

The FBI said Friday that a new wave of messages was sent to Latinos and 2SLGBTQ+ people, and that “some recipients reported being selected for deportation or reporting to a re-education camp.”

The texts, some of which were about Trump winning the election, caused outrage after many recipients shared them on social media last week. The Trump campaign said it had nothing to do with the messages.

Trump, a Republican, defeated presidential candidate Kamala Harris, won the popular vote and the electoral college and captured all seven states, which were expected to be tightly contested. Republicans regained control of the US Senate and retained control of the House.

Federal and state authorities said they were investigating the latest messages. They have not said anything about who is behind them and how many people they have found.

Trump, who takes office on Jan. 20, 2025, has promised to end the state’s diversity and inclusion programs, and that has sparked fears among some black Americans that they may soon face the rollback of some civil rights.
