Whoopi Goldberg’s bakery tip: What you should know
Whoopi Goldberg is making headlines following a major feud between “The View” host and a popular Staten Island bakery.
Goldberg said he was denied a job at Holtermann’s Bakery, which has a long history in the community, because of his political views. The owner of the bakery dismissed the allegations. FOX Business looks into the controversy.
How It Began
The controversy began Wednesday when Goldberg and his co-hosts celebrated his 69th birthday with Charlotte Russe, who appeared on ABC’s “The View,” a daytime talk show.
Charlotte Russe is made with whiskey cream mousse and Bavarian cream, as described by Southern Living.

Pushing Back in Politics?
During the show, Goldberg told the audience that his birthday order was almost fulfilled, saying the bakery was against his political stance.
“They say their ovens are down, all kinds of things, but people go and get them, that’s why I won’t tell you who made them,” said Goldberg on the show. He said his order was not rejected because of his gender, but because “they didn’t like my politics.”
Goldberg is a staunch critic of President-elect Trump. While Vice President Harris won the state of New York, the state of Staten Island voted for Trump.
The Bakery Blasts Back
At a press conference on Friday, Staten Island District President Vito Fossella said the issue has nothing to do with politics.
The bakery “has been here 145 years. They had a boiler that was 60 or 70 years old. And the first week in November, guess what? It went on the fritz,” Fossella said.

He continued: “They changed it. And Holtermann’s reputation is good, so rather than commit to something they couldn’t guarantee, they said, ‘we won’t do it.’ And the person who insulted, insulted them, took that as an insult to him.
According to the bakery’s social media pages, the store is believed to be Staten Island’s oldest owned and operated store.

Boiler separation
Holtermann told Entertainment Weekly that mechanical problems with their boilers were a constant challenge in their building, which was built in 1930.
Holtermann confirmed that he ended up making 50 treats, which were taken Wednesday morning for “The View’s” taping.
He also insisted that his inability to quickly confirm the order had nothing to do with Goldberg’s political beliefs, adding, “I didn’t want to make a commitment that I couldn’t fulfill,” due to the technical difficulties involved.
