Tevin Farmer wore a Saudi outfit today at the final press conference to release Golden Boy, Matchroom, and the media for his fight with lightweight contender William Zepeda on Saturday night.
Farmer countered Zepeda’s (31-0, 27 KOs) fight against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson next on a 5 v 5 card on February 22. He’s not being taken seriously because his skills don’t fit in the lightweight division.
The former IBF super featherweight champion, Farmer (33-6-1, 8 KOs) sees himself in front of him, “putting the cart before the horse” ignoring him, and says he will “ruin the plans.” “
You can understand why the Shakur vs. Zepeda is planned, however, because it will create a lot of excitement. What’s more, Farmer, 34, doesn’t look like the fighter he once was since moving up to 130.
Farmer and Shakur are no strangers to the lightweight division, and their skills are unmatched. They don’t have the right tools to beat natural lightweights like Zepeda and Tank. On Saturday, Farmer will find out, and in February, Shakur will meet his fate against Zepeda.
The farmer is upset to be counted
Like Shakur, who has the same problem, Farmer doesn’t have the power to dominate at 135 that he had at super featherweight, and has to rely on his defense.
That’s not enough to win at the top level at lightweight, and Shakur could get that if he goes in with Zepeda or Gervonta Davis. You have to have a balance between offense and defense to be there with the Sharks at 135.

Tevin Lacks the Physical Tools to Win
Farmer would have been taken seriously if he hadn’t won his last fight against Raymond Muratalla on July 13, and Joseph ‘Jojo’ Diaz didn’t beat him in 2020. Zepeda easily defeated Diaz by a 12-round decision. in October 2022, and he will probably beat Muratalla.
In Farmer’s last fight against Raymond Muratalla, he landed 109 of 446 punches for 24.4%. Muratalla was limited to 106 of 481 shots for 22%. The reason for the low percentage was because of Farmer’s defense. He blocked Muratalla’s offense, making him miss with his powerful shots. In doing so, Farmer ruined his chances of winning by not connecting with enough shots.
We saw the same problem with Farmer on Saturday night against Zepeda when he focused too much on defense and not enough on offense. He has the same problem Shakur Stevenson has. Defensive and innocent, he relies on the judges to score rounds based on making his opponents miss rather than punching each other.
