Gujarat Train Fire: Coach of Mumbai-Amritsar Western Express train catches fire; passengers are safe

Passengers rushed to safety after one of the coaches of the Mumbai-Amritsar Express train caught fire near Silver Bridge in Gujarat’s Bharuch around 5:30 pm on Tuesday. The incident is said to have been caused by a short circuit in the electrical system, according to sources.

People started getting out of the train in panic when it was reported that smoke was seen coming from the train near the bridge.

The incident caused the train to stop for about 45 minutes.

Fire crews and police reached the spot soon after the passengers alerted the Bharuch fire department.

Bharuch fire department and railway officials successfully put out the fire.

No deaths have been reported as a result of this incident at the time of publication.

The train was bound for Amritsar in Punjab from Mumbai in Maharashtra.

After thorough inspection, the train was shifted to Bharuch station after shifting the passengers from the affected coach to another coach.

Western Railway, a subsidiary of Indian Railways, said smoke was detected coming from a rubber gasket behind the middle door of a standard coach in train 12925 around 5 pm on Tuesday.

The railway workers who were on duty quickly extinguished the fire using machines, said the Western Railway.

The train and passengers were completely safe, and continued their journey, it noted.

The Western Railway suspected that a passenger smoking on the moving train was the one who caused the incident.

Railway authorities are investigating the incident further, it added.
