Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz kicked off the upset in style on Monday at the Nitto ATP Finals.
The German pair sank top-ranked Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic 6-3, 6-4 in the opening match of the Bob Bryan Group’s premier season finale. Krawietz and Puetz earned the only break in each set en route to a 63-minute victory, where they won 89 percent (32/36) of the points after the first games.
Notching a win in their first Nitto ATP Finals match, eighth-seeded Krawietz and Puetz improved to 4-2 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Arevalo and Pavic. All six meetings were played in 2024.
Monday’s loss was a setback for Arevalo and Pavic’s bid to win the ATP Year-End Doubles No. 1 presented at the PIF Awards. The Salvadoran-Croatian team still leads the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings but is 210 points behind Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in second place.
