JERUSALEM – On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the worst incidents of anti-Semitism in Europe this century.

Netanyahu directed his harsh words during a violent anti-Israeli mob attack in the Dutch city of Amsterdam on Thursday. “We will not allow the atrocities of history to be repeated. We will never allow lawlessness or terrorism,” he said.

He added, “A clear line connects the two antisemitic attacks against Israel that we have seen recently on Dutch soil: The criminal legal attacks against the State of Israel at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and the violent attacks on Israeli citizens in the streets. In Amsterdam they in both these cases, there was a dangerous anti-Semitism, its goal was to give the helpless Jews and their state, to deny our country the right to defend itself and to deny our citizens their right to live.

“Yesterday we marked Kristallnacht , which happened 68 years ago in Europe. It was a brutal and violent attack on Jews just because they were Jews. Unfortunately, in recent days we saw pictures that remember that night. In the streets of Amsterdam, antisemitic rioters. attacked Jews, citizens of Israel, simply because they were Jews.”

Netanyahu warned that, “Attacks of this kind do not only threaten Israel but endanger the whole world. We have learned something from history: Attacks that start against the Jews, do not end with the Jews. Eventually, they spread to the whole society, and the attacks on the Jews do not only attack the Jews. And they move on to another the country until they burn the entire humanity Therefore, I expect and demand that every responsible government take strong, strong, clear and urgent measures.

Adding to the anger of Dutch authorities, the leader of the Party for Freedom, Geert Wilders, blasted Amsterdam leaders for failing to arrest the perpetrators.

The population of Amsterdam is estimated at 920,000, with about 20,000 Jews. Before the Holocaust, 80,000 Jews lived in Amsterdam. A total of 40,000 Jews live in the Netherlands. There are nearly a million Muslims in the northern European country, and 90,000 Muslims live in Amsterdam.

Echoing a report in the Jerusalem Post in October quoting two Jewish police officers, Kortenoeven noted, “Only last month this came to light when Jewish police officers in Amsterdam blew the whistle on it, warning the media that Jewish victims were under threat of terrorist attacks. Therefore they might not be protected. They have been proven.” that they are right this weekend when more than a thousand police officers were not willing to effectively protect a Jewish soccer ball in Israel that was attacked by Muslim mobs.”

Kortenoeven, who now lives in Israel, added that “Such a large army can be deliberately inactive. Witnesses and victims also testified that the police remained silent in the face of Muslim attackers. No arrests were made. This weekend did not involve Arabs attacking Jews. Meanwhile, the authorities refused identifying Muslim mobs appropriately and calling them ‘motorcycle boys.’
