When Ryan appeared on the October 28 episode, he encountered a clue in the “Fill in the Sound Phrase” section that began with the phrase, “Men rarely pass… .”
Ryan finished the sentence, responding with “girls who wear glasses.”
When he heard the answer, Danger! the host Ken Jennings he quickly apologized to Ryan, who was wearing glasses at the time. “I have a little problem, I’m sorry, Heather,” she said.
Ryan, who works as the director of a health program in Binghamton, New York, spoke about the situation in an interview with Binghamton University’s student newspaper. A Pipe Dream published on Monday, November 4.
“That’s really weird,” Ryan said. “I think it made everyone in the audience and on stage, Ken Jennings too, uncomfortable. It was like, ‘Oh, that was unexpected.’ Maybe we choose better rhyming phrases in 2024. Unfortunately, there are still girls out there [in] in middle school and they don’t want to wear their glasses and they lose their education. So, I think it’s better to be able to see than anything else.”
Ryan faced it head on Ian Taylora grocer from Cleveland, and a video game designer based in Austin Is Wallace. Taylor won the game and Ryan came in second, losing by just $1 in the Final Jeopardy round.
Despite his loss and that unpleasant trail, Ryan enjoyed his experience.
“I had a great time,” he said A Pipe Dream. “Everyone there was very happy.”
Ryan entered the competition after taking an online quiz in early 2023. He did an interview that summer, and filmed his appearance in LA one year later.
“It’s a part of American culture that I really wanted to continue when I got the call,” she said.
The mistake involving Ryan was not a recent one series of Danger! gaffes.
During his first run in 2004, Jennings, the former long-time winner of the competition, was part of a hilarious joke while answering a question in the “Tool Time” segment.
“This term for a long-handled garden tool can also mean a pleasure seeker who behaves badly,” reads the late publisher. Alex Trebek. Jennings, who was leading at the time, replied, “What’s a plow?” As the audience burst into laughter, Trebek laughed, “Whoa, whoa, whoa! They teach you that in school in Utah, huh?”
