IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis’ trainer/father, Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis, hopes opponent Karen Chukhadzhian will not run like she did in their last fight last year on January 7.
Chukhadzhian stunned Boots for 12 rounds last year, making him look bad in their match in Washington, DC Ennis won but looked one-sided and unable to adapt to a fighter with a more tricky style.
Ennis could go up
Papa Ennis is not happy that Boot has been roped in to fight Chukhadzhian again. He can’t do anything else because the International Boxing Federation orders the fight to defend himself. This could have been easily resolved if Ennis had been more courageous.
Boots would step up to challenge the IBF 154-lb champion Bakhram Murtazaliev with his belt. That would have been an obvious move for Ennis, but Murtazaliev is a damaging striker and could pull off the boots. The Philadelphia native wants no part of moving up to 154 to face killers like Murtazaliev, Terence Crawford, Israil Madrimov, Vergil Ortiz Jr., and Serhii Bohachuk.
It would be of great interest to fans in the battle of Boots vs. Murtazaliev rather than Ennis facing Chukhadzhian or another champion at 147. That would require a risk for Ennis, and he doesn’t seem interested. putting his skin on the line against someone who has a real chance of beating him.
Bozy isn’t sure Boots (32-0, 29 KOs) can knock out Chukhadzhian (24-2, 13 KOs) if he moves and holds throughout the night. While he’s confident that Ennis can take the ring off the 28-year-old Chukhadzhian, he can still survive by keeping Boots from getting hit.
Boots vs. Chukhadzhian will headline this Saturday, November 9th, in their rematch at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The event will be shown live on DAZN. In a co-main event, WBC super flyweight champion Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez defends against Pedro Guevara. That fight has a good chance of stealing that from Boot if he can’t see Chukhadzhian’s style again.
Boots’ Stock May Go Down
“I think we should not fight him again. So, I think he found his way back to the top. It’s a must, and that’s the only reason we take it. Otherwise we wouldn’t have taken it,” said Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis speaking to YSM Sports Media about his displeasure with Boot Ennis needing to fight Karen Chukhadzhian again.
Ennis has no choice but to abide by the IBF’s mandatory fight against Chukhadzhian if he wants to retain his title in their organization. Once again, it’s a problem that could easily be solved if Ennis comes out and steps up to challenge IBF junior middleweight champion Murtazaliev. He might be the underdog in that fight, and it’s a very different situation for the younger fighter.
“This is what you usually see, but this time it’s all business. He won’t run him,” Bozy said when asked what kind of Boot Ennis fans will see Saturday night in his rematch with Chukhadzhian. “He’s going to cut him off the ring.
“But if you cut someone’s ring, but if they are trained to survive, it will still be difficult to find them. Once you cut the ring, he’s about to grab you and tie you up. So, you have to be smart, use a lot of lies, and do a lot of different things that you haven’t done before.
“I hope he will be there this time because he wouldn’t be a problem for us,” said Bozy about wanting Chukhadzhian to stand up and be there for Boot Ennis to bat on Saturday. “If you’re going to fight, let’s fight. If you want to dance, we want to dance with him.”
Chukhadzhian will not stop because he is not ready for that fight against Bots Ennis. If Chukhadzhian had it The power of the Julian Jackson brand, he stood happily and removed Bhuti’s head from his shoulders. That is not the reality of the channel. So, Karen will use her technical skills to make Boots look like she’s fighting with two left feet, and her stock will drop again.
