Davies-Masoud, Cameron-Berghult, TNT Sports Undercard Weigh-In Report from Birmingham
Liam Davies is set for his latest attempt to climb the junior featherweight ranks.
‘Telford Inoue’ easily makes his TNT Sports head weight against Shabaz Masoud. Davies (16-0, 8 knockouts) was 121.6 pounds, while Masoud (13-0, 4 KOs) was just under the division limit at 121.9 pounds.
Their 12-round scheduled regional title fight headlines Saturday’s TNT Sports broadcast from bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, England.
Davies has been named by Dev Sahni, boxing’s premier emcee and hype man, as the ultimate fighter to take down Naoya Inoue (28-0, 25 KOs). Although it doesn’t make sense, fights like this will go a long way in helping the 28-year-old rise to contention.
A three-fight knockout round preceded Saturday’s event. It came to this very spot, when Davies stopped Erik Robles (15-2, 9 KOs) in the second round on March 16.
Masoud (13-0, 4 KOs) is also making his second consecutive appearance on the rebranded bp pulse LIVE. The 28-year-old player from Stoke-on-Trent introduced Marvin Solano on July 20.
Saturday will be Masoud’s first scheduled 12-rounder.
The main support compared a number of former graduates who want to return to the top.
Former undisputed 140-pound champion Chantelle Cameron (19-1, 8 KOs) defends her interim WBC junior welterweight title against Sweden’s Patricia Berghult (17-1, 4 KOs).
Cameron weighed in at 139.7 pounds, while Berghult—who was a 154-pounder and now campaigning at 140—weighed in at 138.2 pounds.
The fight is Cameron’s second under the Queensberry Promotions banner. He signed with Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren earlier this year and picked up a second title in his first outing. It came out victorious on July 20 against Elhem Mekhaled in this area.
The important thing for Cameron who campaigned for that trinket was to put himself in a position to win the Nov. 15 Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano rematch. Northampton’s Cameron will be the mandatory challenger for the undisputed crown which he lost to Taylor in their rematch on November 25 in Dublin.
Cameron gave birth to the Irish star last May, spoiling Taylor’s long-awaited birth.
Berghult (17-1, 4 KOs) has won two in a row since a ten-round loss to Natasha Jonas in their September 2022 unification bout. Berghult held the WBC 154-pound title but conceded the belt to the British icon in their championship story of the WBC/WBO.
Below are the weights for the remaining bouts on the undercard.
