TOP STORY: Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson he faces criticism behind his back issued a statement offering “heartfelt thoughts and prayers” to the victim of the shooting in the city’s Rogers Park neighborhood – but said nothing about the victim being Judah. The victim was on his way to a synagogue in an Orthodox Jewish community when he was shot at the weekend by a suspect who then fired at the police and emergency services. The suspect, Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, 22, is an illegal immigrant from Mauritania who was caught at the border in March 2023 and released to the US. The victim is recovering.

BLAMING THE SNAP: There is a wide division between the parties on who should be blamed for escalating the conflict in Gaza, according to an AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey. About 6 in 10 Democrats say the Israeli government bears “a great deal” of responsibility for fueling the conflict in Gaza, while nearly 1 in 4 Republicans place “a great deal” of blame on Israel.
