Kids with Android phones will be able to use Google Wallet tap-to-pay next year

Any parents’ payment cards in Google Wallet may be used for the children’s spinoff. When paying, children will need to authorize the purchase to pay using standard authentication options (fingerprint, facial recognition, PIN or password). At launch, the service is said to support gift cards and event tickets but not online purchases, identification or health cards.

Apple already has a similar take on children’s shopping. Families in the company’s ecosystem can allow their children to use Apple Pay in stores and online or send money through messages with Apple Cash Family.

9 on 5 Google says the Google Kids payments feature will roll out next year to “select Google Wallet users in several countries,” including the US. A wider release is expected sometime after that.
