Tripura government nods 5% DA hike, 2 lakh employees, pensioners to get benefits

The Tripura cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to increase DA by five percent for government employees and pensioners from November 1, the minister said.

About 2 lakh workers and pensioners will benefit from the 5 percent increase in the DA taking the total subsidy to 30 percent, Minister for Food and Social Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury told reporters.

“The council of ministers passed a proposal to increase the DA by five percent for government employees and pensioners from November 1. The state government will have to spend R500 million a year to increase the DA,” said the minister later. Cabinet meeting.
The decision was taken despite tight financial conditions and the government spending Rs 1,700 crore on rehabilitation work after the worst flood in the northeastern state, he said.

The move to increase the DA by 5 per cent was aimed at reducing the grant gap between the Center employees and the state government, said Chowdhury. At present, central government employees get 53% DA, he said.
Chowdhury said the Cabinet also approved another proposal to increase the allowance of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 2,000 per month and uniform allowance from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 per year.

“Apart from the increase in government allowance and uniform, the Cabinet has also released R5 crore to fix the TSR vacancies in the province. Each TSR troop will get Rs 5 lakh to set up a gym and 240 TSR personnel will also be promoted on ad-hoc basis for many years”, he added.
