“Ryan Garcia Ain’t Tough Or Bad If He’s Not Using Drugs” – Malignaggi

Former world champion Paulie Malignaggi based Ryan Garcia today, says that if he “doesn’t do drugs, he’s not fast” or strong.
Malignaggi is not impressed with Ryan’s ability. He notes that he suddenly became super powerful five years ago when he knocked out Romero Duno in the first round in 2019 with a punch that didn’t connect to the top of his head.
Paulie feels that Ryan’s speed, strength, and conditioning improvements were due to his use of PEDs. Garcia, 26, recently tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine following his 12-round decision victory over Devin Haney on April 20 in Brooklyn, New York.
Former two-division world champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) was a fan favorite going into the fight with Garcia, but he was hurt almost immediately in the first round by a left hook.
From there, it all came down to Haney, with Ryan knocking him down in the 7th, 10th, and 11th rounds with powerful left hooks.
“Ryan Garcia, if he doesn’t use drugs, he’s not fast, he’s not strong, he’s not conditioned, and he’s good,” said Paulie Malignaggi on Probox TV, condemning Ryan Garcia. “I’ve been suspecting Ryan Garcia of drug use since probably [Romero] Don’t fight [on November 2, 2019].
Some fans on social media believe that Malignaggi is bitter about what Ryan did to Haney, a fighter with a great style similar to the one he used in his time. Watching Ryan kill Haney would have been hard for Malignaggi to accept.
Ryan broke Haney’s code with ease with his left hook. Was that Malignaggi’s ego watching Haney get caught so quickly by Ryan, who skated him in the first round from a thunderous left hook that connected to the side of his head?
“The battle of Duno, I saw the cut that laid him down. I didn’t say, ‘Oh, this guy’s on drugs,’ because you would never say that,” Malignaggi said of Ryan’s first-round win over Romero Duno. “But there was a kind of sudden surge of energy in Ryan Garcia’s career. It was intense. It wasn’t, ‘You’re strong.’ Then he lost his strength.”
Malignaggi may not have followed Ryan’s career closely before his fight with Duno, but he was knocking out many of his opponents in the early rounds. Prior to the Duno fight, Ryan had five 1st round knockouts and six 2nd round knockouts. If a fighter knocks out their opponents in the first two rounds at such a clip, it suggests that they have a lot of power.
Ryan didn’t start by taking out enemies when he fought Romero Duno. He’s been doing it all along, but the only difference is that he got more attention from that win because the tournament got more publicity.
“But the Duno fight where you hit a strong guy, you even hit him in the head, one leg went this way, one went the other, he was knocked out in the first round. I was like, ‘This guy has never hit like this,’” Malignaggi said.
If Ryan knocks Haney out of the rematch, Malignaggi may change the way he talks about him, as long as he is found to be PED-free. As long as Ryan gets in his pre- and post-fight tests, Malignaggi may jump on board and become one of his true believers.
It is unclear if Ryan and Haney will fight again. Haney has a lawsuit against Ryan, which could result in a rematch not happening. Also, if someone like Jack Catterall defeats Haney with a knockout, there will be no point for Ryan to fight him again because he will be seen as damaged goods. There will be more fan interest in the fight between Ryan and Catterall.
