“Why is Madhabi Buch aiming to answer questions before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Parliament?
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP-led Center of using the SEBI chairmanship as a “shield to hide mistakes” and said Buch would have to answer questions before the PAC, which is a constitutional body.
“The Parliamentary PAC has the constitutional right to summon any official in connection with a government investigation.
“To protect SEBI’s independence, maintain the institution’s impartiality and ensure accountability to Parliament, the SEBI chairman will have to answer before the PAC,” Kharge said in a Hindi post on X.
“The Modi government cannot hide its misdeeds by using the SEBI chairman as a shield,” said a senior Congress official.

The proceedings of this committee remained inactive even during its second sitting, when the chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) appeared briefly, amid the persistent insistence of the NDA members that Venugopal allowed a vote on agenda items such as calling the heads of regulatory bodies, opinion. opposed by the Members of Parliament from the Congress and its allies.
Venugopal, the leader of the Congress, insisted that there will be no voting on the issues that have been approved by the committee, and there is a possibility that he will call Buch again, the sources said.
