Josh Hart finished the preseason with just two points on six field goal attempts in 90 minutes on the field and Jalen Brunson says it’s all his fault.
Through four preseason games, Hart has looked lost and expressed as much after the Knicks’ loss to the Wizards last Friday.
“I’m lost. I don’t know,” Hart said of his role. “There’s a few days… until Boston. So whether that’s trying to find a rhythm with that first unit or we give someone else a look and my role changes and I come off the bench and go with that unit.
“So I’m just trying to figure it out now. I don’t know for sure. But we’ll see what happens in Boston.”
Brunson took Hart’s performance to heart, if you will, and put the burden on him.
“I’ve got to be a better leader and make sure he’s ready to go in the first game,” Brunson told The Post on Sunday. “It’s up to me.”
The Knicks star even suggested that the team could move Hart to the second division.
“I feel like Josh is a selfless person. There may be times when he thinks, ‘I need to get somebody else in,’ ” Brunson said. “But in my opinion, I feel like we have to be better as partners to make sure that we are together or we give each other confidence regardless. That starts with me.”
Brunson declined to comment on whether he thinks Hart would benefit from being off the bench, especially given his current form and all the changes made to the squad over the summer.
“That’s his idea,” Brunson said of his college roommate and podcast host.
