BlackRock CEO Larry Fink on why the company is crushing it

BlackRock flexed its muscles this week, reminding investors why it is the world’s largest asset manager with a new record $11.5 trillion under management.

Exchange-traded funds and mutual funds saw a record $221 billion in the third quarter across multiple, active, index and regional products.

“In my conversations with clients and policy makers around the world, I hear how many countries see the power of the American financial markets and would like to build their own kind of financial markets,” said BlackRock CEO Larry Fink on the company’s earnings conference call.

“Record government deficits and tight bank lending mean that people, companies and countries will increasingly turn to the markets to finance their retirement, businesses and economies,” he continued.

The firm’s ETFs drew $97 billion in the quarter, bringing the annual total to $248 billion. $48 billion went to fixed income, $32 billion to core equity and $20 billion to precision ETFs, according to the company.

“We are seeing an increase in ETF adoption around the world, leading to increased levels of use that we believe will continue,” Fink predicted.

The company owns several major ETFs, including the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF, the iShares Core MSCI EAFE ETF, the iShares Core US Aggregate Bond ETF and the iShares Russell 1000 Growth ETF, as tracked by VettaFi.
