9-1-1: Lone Star’s Ronen Rubinstein teases the arrival of Enzo and Jonah
TK Strand and her husband Carlos Reyes have been singing 9-1-1: Lone Star – and the hits keep on coming!
Ronen Rubinsteinwho plays emergency TK, has been specially told Us Weekly that episode 7, which airs on Monday, November 11, will bring another curveball to the couple. “Enzo and Jonah are coming again [we’ll see] what will that do to TK and Carlos,” he said, referring to TK’s stepfather, Enzo, and half-brother, Jonah, coming to Austin.
“Just when you think it’s going to go well and they’re going to have this amazing time on their anniversary, they’re going to throw another wrench into their relationship,” Rubinstein, 30, teased.
On the October 21 episode of the Fox show, TK and Carlos (Rafael L. Silva) went to couples counseling to solve some problems. At the end of the episode, they celebrate one year of marriage.
Carlos gave TK an empty box, which he said he would use to put his work files on the Texas Rangers when he got home. TK is touched by this act, as Carlos’ search for his father’s killer – and other crimes – has spilled over into their time as husbands.
“Honestly right now, I think these two can handle it,” Rubinstein said Us next to a lovely TV couple called the Tarlos. “Their devotion to each other is otherworldly. Such are the goals of the couple. It’s not real.”
While Rubinstein revealed that TK and Carlos will have to shake up their lives when Enzo and Jonah surprise him for his 30th birthday, the actor said that TK and his father, Owen Strand (Rob Lowe), will have more problems to solve during the visit.
“I think Enzo coming in is going to throw a giant, big wrench into that relationship,” Rubinstein teased. “We’re going to get a lot more about the real backstory of TK and Owen in New York. Because Enzo was actually raising TK when he was young, and Owen wasn’t really there.”
9-1-1: Lone Star it began with Owen moving from the Big Apple to Austin with his son, TK, to start over after the tragic events of 9/11. The two had a son and started at Firehouse 126 together in Texas before TK became a paramedic at the same firehouse.
During the series, fans meet Owen’s ex-wife, and TK’s mother, Gwen Morgan (Lisa Edelstein), who later died. The writers also revealed that during her childhood, Gwen started dating a man named Enzo, whom she fell in love with again years later, and adopted a second son, Jonah.
Viewers have yet to meet any of the characters in person – but that will change next episode.
“Ultimately we’re going to go deep into what it actually looked like and what that did to TK, which he hasn’t disclosed yet,” said Rubinstein. Us of Enzo’s story, calling it “strong stuff” that TK and Owen will have to deal with.
The actor revealed that the father-son dynamic will create a “love triangle between Enzo, TK and Owen” as they try to navigate how they all come together after Gwen’s death.
“Enzo is very important to me because since season 1, I’ve always dreamed, ‘Who is this Enzo and who are we going to play him?'” Rubinstein said. “And what that dynamic will look like. And I think they did it very well. It’s really interesting.”
Rubinstein called the show’s fifth and final season “the best season yet,” promising a “happily ever after” when it comes to an end. (News broke in September that the 5th season would be the last 9-1-1: Lone Star.)
“[I] he surprised many times in the last five seasons. I feel like TK has had some crazy stories and I have to do crazy things on the show,” he said. Us. “They went above and beyond what I expected, especially this season.”
Rubinstein explained that the writers “knocked it out of the park” with TK and Enzo and Jonah’s stories.
