7 days National Fasting declared as former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away

As India lost former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Thursday, all government programs scheduled for Friday were canceled and seven days of national mourning was declared as a mark of respect for the great man’s passing. Dr. Singh was 92 years old.

Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet was expected to meet at 11 am on Friday, when the last rites of Dr Manmohan Singh are expected to be conducted with full state honours.

The main opposition party, Indain National Congress has announced that all party programs, including its foundation day celebrations, will be canceled for the next seven days as a mark of respect for the former prime minister.

Dr. Singh, widely recognized as the architect of economic reforms in India, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital on Thursday night.

The National Flag will be flown at half-mast on days of mourning throughout the country in all buildings where it flies regularly.

There will be no official entertainment on those days during the seven-day period.

Dr. Singh served as the country’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.

He is well known for his role in changing the country’s economy during the period of great freedom.
